What attracted you to your chosen work?

Early in my career, I was struck by the disconnect between sustainability and core business strategy within many corporate clients. This realization ignited my passion, and I made it my mission to bridge this gap, assisting companies in integrating sustainable practices into their fundamental business operations. Throughout my professional journey, I've led diverse global functions, often concurrently, with sustainability serving as the unifying theme.

The multifaceted nature of sustainability challenges, coupled with the intrinsic link to innovation, consistently fueled my dedication and engagement in this field. The complexities inherent in addressing sustainability issues require a holistic approach that transcends traditional business silos and demands collaboration across the entire value chain, from suppliers to customers, for shared value creation.

Technological advancements, innovative business models, and progressive policies are all essential components of a sustainable future. By embracing innovation, we can create true business value, reduce environmental impact, and generate new opportunities for growth and profitability.

What skills did you develop early that are still useful today?

As a curious person, I am naturally drawn to stepping out of my comfort zone. Doing so has led to personal and professional growth. It has opened doors to new opportunities and roles in countries other than my home country and challenged me to learn and adapt continuously.

Two other key skills I learned early in my career at the United Nations are active listening and influencing. These skills have become cornerstones of my professional toolkit, which I leverage daily.

Active listening, for instance, has been essential in truly understanding the needs and perspectives of colleagues, stakeholders, and clients. This, in turn, has allowed me to build strong relationships and foster trust, both of which are critical for effective collaboration and achieving shared goals. Similarly, my influencing skills have enabled me to advocate for my ideas, gain buy-in from others, and navigate complex organizational dynamics successfully.

How have you grown in your career at Avery Dennison?

I consistently grew over the past three and a half years at Avery Dennison, due to the complex cross-departmental efforts I led, the close interactions with colleagues from diverse cultures and backgrounds, the expansion of my responsibilities, and the two promotions I was awarded.

My most recent promotion to join the Materials Group Leadership Team has been a great opportunity to work with talented colleagues. Additionally, since the beginning of 2025, I have led our Enterprise Environmental Sustainability Council.

What's the biggest stretch opportunity you've taken on?

One of the primary opportunities for enhancing our sustainable business practices lies in collaborating closely with our end users, the brand owners, to drive change throughout the value chain. To this end, last year, I initiated a genuinely collaborative project, involving colleagues from multiple departments & all regions, and partnering with Bain & Company to conduct comprehensive research. Through the many interviews we conducted with brand owners, recyclers, and other ecosystem partners, we gained a deeper understanding of their challenges in the realm of sustainability and packaging circularity and identified ways in which we can contribute to solutions.

I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with so many talented colleagues and feel fortunate for the support I get from my remarkable team.

What’s the best career decision you’ve ever made?

Moving from operations to supply chain was a big decision, but I'm certainly glad I made it. I took the knowledge and experience from my operations roles into my new supply chain role, allowing me to see situations from different perspectives more holistically. In the four years I have been in Supply Chain, I have grown within my role and see great progression opportunities for the future.

What role has mentorship played in your career?

The impact of mentorship on my professional life cannot be overstated. I am genuinely grateful for the wisdom, guidance, and encouragement my mentors have generously shared. I am confident that their influence will continue to shape my career for years to come.

My mentors consistently provided me with honest and constructive feedback, which has been instrumental in refining my skills and abilities. Their candid insights have challenged me to push my boundaries and fostered continuous improvement.

Furthermore, they have been invaluable in helping me navigate the inevitable challenges that arise in any career. Their sage advice and unwavering support empowered me to make informed decisions, overcome obstacles, and seize opportunities.

Finally, through my mentors, I also gained access to a vast network of valuable contacts, significantly expanding my professional reach and opening many doors.

What do you enjoy most about the work you do?

The most fulfilling aspect of my career is the opportunity to create enduring business value and implement systemic change. The global reach of my position, combined with the nature of sustainability, allows me to influence change across our entire value chain, industry, and beyond. This involves collaborating with our suppliers, customers, and other partners to create a lasting positive impact.

I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with so many talented colleagues and feel fortunate for the support I get from my remarkable team. We are a truly global team, dispersed in five regions, and our ability to work seamlessly across boundaries and multiple time zones is a testament to our dedication and adaptability. Teamwork and collaboration, as well as the diversity of our perspectives and cultural backgrounds, are our greatest assets and foster an environment of innovation and creativity.

90th Anniversary Reflection

What’s one sustainability initiative at Avery Dennison that you’re most proud of?

The accomplishment I am most proud of at Avery Dennison is introducing and establishing our Sustainability strategic plan in 2023, which we updated in 2024. The impact of this strategic initiative has been substantial, both on a global and regional scale, as it provided alignment and clarity across departments and regions and significantly enhanced our ability to manage sustainability-related risks and opportunities. Our strategic plan fostered a shared understanding and direction; it enabled us to prioritize our efforts effectively across the entire organization. It delivers value by keeping us focused on the initiatives providing the most significant business and environmental value.

What changes have you made in your daily habits to be more sustainable?

A sustainable lifestyle aligns with my values and beliefs, and what I am most passionate about is influencing my family and friends to embrace it as we drive more significant improvements together.

To reduce waste, I carry reusable water bottles or coffee cups, and I use cloth shopping bags. I minimize single-use plastics and opt for products with recyclable packaging. I also practice mindful consumption by buying only what I need and avoiding impulse purchases.

For energy conservation, I turn off lights and unplug electronics when not in use, and I try to maximize natural light. I also adjust my thermostat to reduce heating and cooling needs.

Regarding transportation, I reduce my carbon footprint by walking, cycling, or using public transport whenever possible.

In my diet, I try to reduce my meat consumption, focus on plant-based meals, and prioritize locally sourced and seasonal produce.
